Here is something flying under the radar from You, Me, We = Oakley program as they are holding an Essay Contest with prizes awarded to City of Oakley students (middle or high school). The prizes range from $50 for third place to $200 for 1st place.

“Creating a Welcoming Community”
You, Me, We Oakley seeks to create an inclusive community where everyone feels welcomed and accepted. We seek to have youth create their vision of an inclusive community, and to use their creativity when they think about how to achieve this goal. It is our goal to promote a welcoming culture among our youth and to the broader community.
Theme: “Creating a Welcoming Community”
The future of our community lies in our hands. Essay must address the following two points:
1. Why is creating an inclusive community important?
2. How can we go about creating an inclusive community here in Oakley?
Guidelines:
1. Students must be currently enrolled in a high school or middle school in the City of Oakley OR the (middle or high school) student must be a current resident of the City of Oakley.
2. Essay must be at least 500 words and typed essays are preferred.
3. Please mail essays or email as an email attachment to: gaby@youmeweoakley.org
4. Essays must be written by only one student.
5. Essays are to be submitted with a title page that includes the student’s name and phone number to contact if the student wins. Student must also indicate the school they attend OR if the student attends a High school or middle school outside of Oakley, please indicate that you are an Oakley resident.
