Words cannot describe how I feel about this disgusting act as people worked hard throughout the year to provide for families in need and are wiped out by some jerk. This is just disgusting and I hope these a-holes are caught.
The Friends of Oakley was robbed Tuesday as thieves made off with an estimated $4,000 worth of toys and food being collected for a charity Christmas Basket program serving hundreds of local families.
Friends of Oakley have run the Christmas Basket program for four years. This year the nonprofit organization registered 300 families and 200 senior citizens to receive aid this holiday season. Families receive a box of food, including fresh fruit and vegetables, a turkey and a wrapped toy for each child in the family. Seniors are provided with goody bags filled with food, word puzzles and hygiene products. While the handmade gifts for seniors went untouched, most of the toys for children 12 and younger were taken.
In response, let’s turn this tragedy into positive action.
I have faith as this is a community that will replenish what was stolen and come back stronger than ever. Rather than sit back and mope, we will reorganize and continue to do great things for families in need—most importantly, provide a nice Christmas to families.
During this time of need, no donation is considered too small or goes unnoticed. Every little bit of assistance helps and is greatly appreciated.
