Oakley Chamber: Almond Festival & Citizen of the Year “Tabled”

It’s a sad day in Oakley when its own Chamber of “No” Commerce has to “table” two annual events based on low membership and participation.

According to the Oakley Chamber of Commerce website, its with “mixed emotions” that both the Almost Festival and Citizen of the Year have been tabled so they can focus on 2013 events—giving them nearly another year to plan.

At the very least, a low-key Almond Festival could have been put on for the kids that would be entertaining. At the very worst, a pizza dinner or pasta dinner would be sufficient for a citizen of the year dinner—hell it might even be fun as opposed to the traditional dinner setting.

I am almost half tempted to take on both events to make sure they happen just to show these people how it’s done.

Below are both statements from the Chamber Website

Almost Festival

It is with mixed emotions the Oakley Chamber of Commerce has decided to table the 2012 Almond Festival.  Our mission during this year is two-fold:  increase our membership and strengthen our support of the members.  We have already started the process by working more closely with the City and feel this union will make us stronger and better able to serve the business community.  We will be joining forces with the City to improve the 2013 Oakley Almond Festival and plan to combine the redevelopment of Main Street with the Almond Festival location.  We will keep you updated on our website as they become available.  If you would like to be involved in the planning of the 2013 Almond Festival, please feel free to call our Chamber office at 925-625-1035 and we’d be happy to place your contact information on a list for the future.

Thank you for your understanding and support!

Citizen of The Year

It is with mixed emotions the Oakley Chamber of Cmmerce has decided to table the Oakley Citizen of the Year Awards for 2012.  Our mission during this year is two-fold:  increase our membership and strengthen our support of the members.  We have already started the process by working more closely with the City and feel this union will make us stronger and better able to serve the business community.  We plan on rolling out a new Citizen of the Year Event in 2013 and hope to get more of the community (residents as well as businesses) involved.   We will post updates on our website as they become available.  If you would like to be involved in the planning of the Citizen of the Year Awards, please feel free to call our Chamber office at 925-625-1035 and we’d be happy to place your contact information on a list for the future.Thank you for your understanding and support!
